Library - DEFLE - French as a Foreign Language


A library to help you build on your in-class learning

The library has a very welcoming atmosphere, and provides students with access to some 7,000 documents. Of these, 6,200 are categorised and available online via the interlibrary catalogue for Bordeaux universities, known as BABORD+

You may consult the resources on site, or borrow a selection, to help you as you study general French, specialised French, and the didactics of teaching French as a Foreign Language (FLE).

Our librarian, Cécile Klaver (cecile.klaver @ can also offer advice on the learning methods available, and recommend CDs, DVDs and books on French literature and civilisation.


The library has subscriptions to:

  • daily newspapers: Le Monde, Le Figaro, Libération and Sud-Ouest;
  • magazines: L’Obs, Le Point, L’Express, Challenges, and Le Magazine littéraire;
  • more specialised journals on French in today's world, studies in applied linguistics, modern langauges etc.: ‘Le Français dans le Monde’, ‘Études de linguistique appliquée’, ‘Langages’, and ‘Langues modernes’.


  • library orientation and support, personalised to your research needs;
  • loan up to 5 documents for a duration of 15 days;
  • CD and DVD players available on site for the consultation of audiovisual items;
  • 1 desktop computer(with internet connection), which can be accessed with university login details.
